Long before Martinique Island Style or Barbados Port Douglas took form, there was a very happy childhood grounded in love and support. Raised by devoted parents deeply committed to each other, their family and their community, she grew up in a home where integrity, generosity and kindness were lived daily. Her mother gave herself fully to family life, creating a stable and loving home, while her father balanced family with work, weekends on the water and active involvement in the community - always present at everyday moments that mattered.
Sport ran through her childhood like a thread - many disciplines, pursued simply because she loved them. Active and deeply passionate, she competed with genuine commitment and naturally found herself coaching along the way. Some weekends were spent sailing with her father - a dental surgeon by profession and a sailor and boat builder by passion - sometimes in competition, other times just the two of them aboard "Twiggy," the multihull he built himself, guided by wind and weather. School years were happy and formative, following her mother's path to Presbyterian Ladies' College Sydney as a weekly boarder in later years, before returning home to attend teachers college with a focus on physical education. A career in infants and primary education followed, grounded in care, structure and the early shaping of young minds - fulfilling in every sense.
At twenty-four, a modest beachside home near Wollongong became the first canvas - the beginning of a lasting passion for transforming space. A move to Paddington in Sydney's eastern suburbs followed, where two further renovations strengthened confidence and sharpened creative instinct. Long before motherhood, the satisfaction of reshaping space with intention had already taken hold.
Motherhood then became the most profound and defining role of all. The love and values her parents had so carefully instilled now found their fullest expression - poured into her two beautiful children, her greatest joy, her deepest love and her most enduring inspiration. They completed the picture her parents had so lovingly begun.
Homes across Sydney's eastern suburbs, the harbour and the South Coast of NSW evolved alongside family life - and in more recent years across Port Douglas, Brisbane and the Gold Coast - each one deepening instinct and sharpening vision. Creating, refining and reimagining spaces has never been a phase; it has been a lifelong thread - now expressed through styling, interior design and renovation as a natural extension of Martinique Island Style.
This philosophy extends beyond the walls of Martinique Island Style. It found its clearest expression in Barbados Port Douglas - an award-winning cocktail bar conceived, designed and built from the ground up, executed with uncompromising precision. Every element was intentional. Custom-designed whitewashed teak daybeds, rockers and armchairs upholstered in tailored white with piping detail - structured, architectural and resolutely comfortable. Navy and white striped umbrellas against the tropical sky. Fresh green leaves styled daily. Flowers placed with purpose. Premium food and beverage presented first for the eyes. Signature tiki cocktails crafted as much for theatre as for taste.
Set against an idyllic waterfront - boats drifting in, sunsets unfolding across the inlet - Barbados embodied barefoot luxury at its most refined. Relaxed, yet elevated. Comfortable, yet architectural. Mother Nature remained at centre stage, enhanced by design that honoured it rather than competed. From the way the team was dressed to the placement of a single cushion, every detail reflected the same disciplined eye. It was hospitality shaped not by formula, but by care and intention - deliberate, disciplined and entirely its own.
For her, hospitality was never an industry; it was humanity. And humanity, at its core, is about how people are made to feel - welcomed the moment they enter, at ease, valued, and completely at home. Barbados was the fullest expression of that belief - every element precise, every detail intentional, every guest made to feel that beauty and belonging were one and the same.
